Shortly after this publication, Blizzard confirmed in a blog post that it is going to fix the bug and remove both Bear and Cat Forms from all players who didn’t acquire them when the Mage Tower Challenge came out in Legion. The original story follows.
Although a lot of energy from the development team at Blizzard is going into the Midnight expansion for World of Warcraft, content for the current version of The War Within is still coming. The biggest release right now is WoW‘s Legion Remix event, which came out either yesterday or today, depending on the location of servers. World of Warcraft‘s Mists of Pandaria Remix was received incredibly well by the community, and it’s still one of the best experiences ever for some of those who participated in it. Legion Remix has its issues, like time-gated content, but right off the bat, it’s giving players something they have wanted since the original Legion or feared it would happen: Mage Tower skins.
The Mage Tower Challenge and its Timewalking versions are often considered very hard content by longtime fans, and while they are no longer available, the rewards from the original are some of the most coveted customization options in the game. Many players who have them don’t want them back for free or with a trivialized challenge for everyone, as they would lose their prestige, whereas other World of Warcraft players would love to get the chance to unlock these skins. Luckily, this wish has been granted with Legion Remix, most likely by accident, unlocking four Druid skins for free just by logging in. These are:
- Might of the Grizzlemaw (White)
- Might of the Grizzlemaw (Tan)
- Might of the Grizzlemaw (Black)
- Might of the Grizzlemaw (Brown)
Unfortunately, these are all skins for World of Warcraft‘s Druid class, and even then, they only apply to Bear Form. Feral Druid doesn’t unlock its Mage Tower skins at the moment, which further cements this occurrence as a bug and something Blizzard may try to fix soon.
Even those who don’t play a Druid may want to collect these skins before it’s too late. Furthermore, Midnight’s Haranir Allied Race can be a Druid with new forms, and having more Bear Forms in preparation can’t hurt.
Why World of Warcraft's Legion Remix Divided The Community With Mage Tower Rewards
Considering that World of Warcraft‘s 11.2.7 patch brings back the Brawler’s Guild after five years, it’s not impossible for Blizzard to bring back old content. However, Mage Tower rewards were explicitly cut from Legion Remix, a decision that was considered controversial by those who never got a chance at getting them, and celebrated by some who owned them already. This divided the playerbase, and it seemed final on Blizzard’s part, rather than something that could change. However, upon making a Druid in Legion Remix, players now automatically have the Might of the Grizzlemaw skins.
How to Get World of Warcraft's Mage Tower Druid Form in Legion Remix
In order to unlock the original Mage Tower Bear Form for the Druid, players simply need to create a new character in World of Warcraft‘s Legion Remix event – a Timerunner. This character has to be a Druid, and logging into the game and going to the Barber Shop after completing introductory quests (or skipping them if one has already completed them on a different character) will show the Might of the Grizzlemaw variations under the Bear Form section, even if one never participated in the Mage Tower Challenge.
This also immediately unlocks in retail World of Warcraft, so if fans are not interested in playing Legion Remix, they can safely ignore the event.
World of Warcraft's Legion Remix is Officially a Knockout For Two Out of Four Druid Forms
On top of that, Legion Remix’s rewards in World of Warcraft go even further, as creating a Guardian or Feral Druid and getting the corresponding artifact weapons in the first few minutes of gameplay also unlocks other forms if players don’t have them already. These are:
- Feral Druid
- Fangs of Ashamane (Brown)
- Fangs of Ashamane (Black)
- Fangs of Ashamane (Blue)
- Fangs of Ashamane (White)
- Moonspirit (White)
- Guardian Druid
- Claws of Ursoc (Brown)
- Claws of Ursoc (Gold)
- Claws of Ursoc (White)
- Claws of Ursoc (Black)
- Stonepaw (Gray)
- Stonepaw (Blue)
- Stonepaw (Green)
- Stonepaw (Fuchsia)
Why World of Warcraft Players Need to Act Fast With Legion Remix Skins
It’s unclear whether all these options are going to be left in players’ hands even after unlocking them, but they will most likely become unavailable soon if Blizzard addresses the bug. Considering that the Mage Tower skins only apply to one Druid Form and no other class in World of Warcraft, it’s most likely a glitch. The possible scenarios at this point are that either Blizzard fixes it or decides to leave it in the game for all to enjoy.
These are equally controversial choices, so it’s a lose-lose scenario for the developer. If Blizzard fixes the glitch and removes the skins from players’ accounts, the backlash will be huge. Likewise, fixing the bug and allowing all those who got the skins in time to keep them would be perceived as unfair by other fans. On the other hand, leaving it as is for all to get the Mage Tower skins in WoW for free may backfire because these are only for one form within one class, and because the owners of the original skins may be unhappy about the decision. This is already happening online, too.
The bug seems to be happening differently for fans, too, as some claim to have gotten the skins without participating in Legion Remix, while others had to create a Druid Timerunner to get them. Players will have to wait and see what happens next, but for the time being, it’s safe to log into the game and make a Druid in Legion Remix in case Blizzard allows fans to keep the Mage Tower skins.
