On Wednesday, La Liga said Barcelona did not have the salary space to register Olmo and Victor and questioned the €100 million (£83.6m) deal which led to Spain's sport ministry granting the duo temporary registrations in January.

The league said: "The financial statements show Barcelona did not have on Dec. 31, 2024, nor on Jan. 3, 2025, nor since that date the capacity to register Olmo and Víctor."

Now Laporta has accused La Liga of "attacking" Barca's interests while suggesting the timing of the statement is "strange" ahead of Wednesday's Copa del Rey semi-final second-leg clash with Atletico Madrid.

Barca president Laporta said in an angry outburst to reporters: "We will respond back to La Liga. They want to attack our interests. La Liga approved signings of Pau Victor and Olmo and now they've changed their minds. Why? Did they do a bad job in the first place when they approved the operations."

On La Liga's statement on Financial Fair Play, he added: "We're playing a key match tonight and La Liga is communicating this morning. Strange! They can't beat us on the pitch, so they act off it."

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Barcelona have been a dire situation financially in recent years, highlighted by their initial failure to register summer signing Olmo and Victor earlier this season. Now a decision seems set to happen to resolve this case once and for all.

Registration issues aside, Barca travel to Atletico in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final on Wednesday night, with the first leg of the tie having ended 4-4.
